12 STRONG (aka: 12 Strong: The Declassified True Story Of The Horse Soldiers, 2018) 

This war movie is about a US task force in Afghanistan. 

An MH-47 Chinook takes off from ‘K2’ military base, captioned “97 miles” from the Afghan border. 

A low flying UH-60 Black Hawk buzzes over army tents on the base. 

A Chinook transport is escorted by two Black Hawks, during a high altitude flight above the clouds, landing to drop off troops in the desert. 

After the final battle, a Chinook swoops into land on the battle-field for a medevac flight. 

With a Black Hawk escort, a Chinook lands in Uzbekistan, bringing the troops back to base. 

Darkest Minds

THE DARKEST MINDS (2018) 

This sci-fi movie is about psychic kids becoming heroes. 

A pair of Chinook transports fly over the prison camp.

In a night raid, two Osprey tilt-rotors hover above the kids’ hide-out, where attacking troops and mutants slide down ropes to the ground. 

When the heroine controls minds of the pilots, one of the Ospreys crashes into the ground, to crumple and explode on impact in a spectacular special effects sequence.

Magnum

MAGNUM P.I. (2018) 

This TV series is a remake of Magnum, P.I. (1980-8), about a detective in Hawaii.  

The first episode, I Saw The Sun Rise, includes an airborne stunt of a helicopter rescue, where the pilot ‘TC’ (Stephen Hill) flies a Hughes 500D painted to match the chopper in 1980s TV show's colours. 

Season one episode Bad Day To Be A Hero also has a recreation of the original show’s ‘Island Hopper’ with its doors off.
